Emerald Caribbean & a Taste of the Panama Canal Cruise

15days from
£1,649*per person

Overview

This western Caribbean island hopping cruise gives you a taste of a passage through the Panama Canal and the opportunity to experience one of the great American engineering feats of the 20th century. Unlike full Panama Canal cruises these ones have a healthy dose of Caribbean sunshine and beaches - roundtrip from Florida.
The Panama Canal provides a vital shipping route between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. There are three sets of huge locks and they incorporate two independent lanes for two-way traffic. The set that carries the ship between the Atlantic and the Gatun Lake comprises of three stepped tiers. The journey from the Gatun Lake to the Pacific Ocean is split into two separate sets of locks. The Miraflores locks has two stepped tiers and the final set which reaches the Pacific Ocean is a single stepped tier known as the Pedro Miguel lock. On these itineraries you will travel as far as the Gatun Lake before returning to the Caribbean. Dense rainforests, incredible wildlife and amazing history are all on offer on what is a trip of a lifetime. In Colombia visit the centre of Cartagena which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, take an excursion through the Jungle in Panama and paddle down the Reventazon River in Costa Rica from Limon. With bonus stop offs in the Caribbean visiting Jamaica & the Cayman Islands, this itinerary has it all.

Itinerary

  • Fly to Miami for an overnight hotel stay on Fort Lauderdale beach
  • Make your own way to nearby Port Everglades to embark the ship.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Aruba is situated just 15 miles off the coast of Venezuela at the Southern end of the Caribbean. This island is just 5 Miles wide by 19 Miles long so getting around does not take long and is relatively in-expensive. The north side of the island has an exposed rocky coast while the south coast has the soft white sand beaches, great shopping, stunning sea and desert landscape views. All of this can be experienced from the capital Oranjestad with its heavy Dutch influences. The closet beaches to the capital are Surfside Beach and Druif Beach both with soft white sand. Aruba is a mecca for American tourist and beach holidays. Ships moor at the quayside and it is a short walk into town.
  • This volcanic island is sandwiched in between Bonaire and Aruba and is lies in the far South of the Caribbean just 40 miles off the coast of Venezuela. The capital Willemstad is a cosy Dutch haven with its neat row houses which are 17th and 18th century Dutch colonial buildings. Visit the Hato Caves formed from coral reefs, the freshwater waterfall and Shete Boka National Park with its limestone tidal cavern. The Ostrich Farm is the largest outside of Africa where you can feed the birds and watch the Ostrich dance. Best souvenir buys are Delft pottery and of course the Sapphire Blue Liqueur -Curacao.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Cartagena is a modern port city on Colombia's Caribbean coast. At its core is the walled Old Town, with 16th-century plazas, cobblestone streets and colourful colonial buildings. With a tropical climate, the city is a popular beach destination. Reachable by boat are the nearby shores of Isla de Barú and Islas del Rosario, known for their coral reefs and scuba diving.
  • One of the seven wonders of the world linking the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean by a series of locks taking huge ships across the Central America via the Gatun Lake. A must do journey on anyone's bucket list the ship squeezes through narrow canals seemingly floating across dry land. A Journey through the Panama Canal is achieved by the ship rising up and down through huge locks. On this Itinerary the ship will travel through the first set of locks (comprising of three stepped tiers) from the Caribbean to the Gatun lake and back. Your Panama Canal taster experience ends with a port of call on Cristobal for Colón which is known as Panama's second city and it is the capital of Panama's Colón Province.
  • Stretching along the Caribbean Coast, Limon is considered to be one of the most pristine and lush regions of Costa Rica. Roughly 125 miles of shoreline lies between Nicaragua and Panama which boasts picturesque white-sand beaches lined with coconut trees for an ultimate tropical paradise.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • This island remains part of the British Commonwealth and it is famed its Scuba diving and white sandy beaches - in particular Seven-Mile Beach close to Georgetown the capital. It is also one of the few nesting grounds of the logger-head turtle. One of the best things to do is snorkelling with the sting rays - you will not be disappointed. Try visiting Hell - a village in the far corner of the island where you will find a turtle farm. Ships generally anchor off shore here and the island is reached by tender.
  • Relax and make the most of the myriad of facilities available on board the ship, from fantastic entertainment to delicious and diverse dining options.
  • Disembark the ship after breakfast in Port Everglades and make your own way to Miami airport (approx' 25 Miles) for your overnight flight home.
  • Arrive into the UK in the morning, after your overnight flight for your onward journey home.
